Maude Barlow Comes to Town (edited from The Shield, May 9, 2008)
In the Centennial Secondary School auditorium on May 1st, two teachers' federations, District 29 OSSTF and ETFO sponsored this year's community forum about the water justice movement. Canadian author and activist Maude Barlow was the guest speaker in their Kevin Manion Memorial Lecture Series...
At the end of her lecture Maude reminded her audience that "nature bats last", and to prevent the harmful reaction of nature to thoughtless water management she encouraged them to participate in the bid to make water legally a common asset instead of a commodity to be sold.
Our 2008 Series featured Maude Barlow, national chairperson of the Council of Canadians and author of Blue Covenant.
